1. Why XML for courseware?

The seemingly relentless increase in market growth for Internet standards and services, both on corporate networks (intranets) and on the global Internet, create obvious opportunities for a significant expansion in the markets for computer-based courseware.

However, there is no clear sign that any single technology or set of technologies for courseware delivery is emerging as the obvious choice. Where standards do exist, these provide a foundation but do not (and are not intended to) provide the rich required of a courseware product.

Why XML for Courseware?
Growing access to the Internet and the use of Internet networking standards within corporate networks (intranets) create opportunities for a significant expansion in the markets for computer-based courseware.

However, there is no clear sign that any single technology or set of technologies for courseware delivery is emerging as an obvious choice. The opportunities that do exist come with the element of risk that a product may have to be migrated to new delivery platforms as the underlying technologies evolve.

Choosing the right technologies from the start is therefore crucial to reducing the risks of obsolescence and extending the life of courseware content.
