Apollo Mission
The mission flight plan called for the rocket's first stage to separate out at 162 seconds into the flight, falling into the Atlantic ocean some 630 kilometers from the launch pad, nine minutes after launch. At 553 seconds, the second stage separated out, falling 4250 km away and 20 minutes after launch respectively. The third stage continued with the spacecraft into a near-circular "parking" orbit around Earth, at a height of 190 km. Should the rocket's guidance system have failed, its astronauts could have made their own adjustments.
