Apollo
American program of studying the Moon. On July 20, 1969 the first man landed on the Moon.
 
Surveyor
Program, consisted of seven unmanned lunar missions that were launched between May 1966 and January 1968.
 
Ranger
Program, consisted of nine spacecraft missions, launched between 1961 and 1965 with the primary objective of obtaining high-quality photographs of the lunar surface.
 
Luna
Long-running program conducted by the former Soviet Union, designed to collect information about the Moon and its environment. 24 missions were launched in 1959 through 1976.
 
Lunar Orbiter
Five missions, launched in 1966 through 1967 with the purpose of mapping the lunar surface before the Apollo landings.
 
Pioneer 1-4
First attempts made by the United States to build spacecraft that were intended to leave Earth orbit, between October 1958 and March 1959. Only Pioneer 4 was able to escape Earth's gravitational pull and flyby the moon.
